JGAurora A5S Direct Drive
All the info you need to complete my DIY JGAurora and JGMaker A5S Direct Drive conversion is on this page! Please do email me to let me know if any of these links are broken or if any items are out of stock. I'm also happy to answer any questions you have directly, or you can post them as comments on the YouTube video!
Please let me know if this mod works on your A3S or A5 printer. The components should be the same and it should work for those printers as well, but I need your help in confirming that!

Essential Items
Printed component STL files
Before we can even consider doing this swap, we definitely need to print the required components. I have uploaded the STL files for these to Thingiverse and you are more than welcome to download and print them. Thingiverse thing for STL files: bit.ly/3aCnTpC
Stepper motor extension cable
You will absolutely need the extension cables to perform this DIY mod. Shipping only to the United States for now, unless you're interested in a bulk order. Sorry, international orders will be cancelled as it's not practical for anyone to pay international shipping costs! BMG Style Extruder
Unfortunately, the stock extruder on the JGAurora printers is not the greatest, nor will it work for our purposes. You will need to upgrade to a BMG style extruder for this mod, and should probably upgrade even if you're not going direct drive! A few options are available from Amazon.com.
Screws
We'll need longer screws since the screws that are on the printer fit into a recess, and with our printed bracket, those screws are too short. We really need two M3X12mm screws and two M3 washers, two M3x20mm screws and two M3 nuts...but I like to buy a kit to have all the screws I can ever need for my printer handy.

ExtrasSlim Stepper Motor
While a new stepper motor is not absolutely necessary for this mod, a slim stepper will greatly reduce the weight on the printer carriage. These motors are cheap on Amazon.com. ***NOTE: If you do use this motor, you will have to swap the two center wires on the extension cable on one end. If you go with another brand motor, please refer to that motor wiring diagram for which pins correspond with the motor poles. Techflex split wire sleeve
I clearly am not too concerned with how my printer looks, as long as it works right. If you DO care what it looks like, grab yourself some of this wraparound nylon loom and give it a clean, finished look. Screwdriver
If you're going to be doing any work on any kind of electronics, I strongly suggest getting yourself some quality tools instead of fumbling around with cheap hex wrenches. This screwdriver kit includes all the bits you'll ever need for precision work. |
